Arthur Bjerke was born in 1886. He grew up on his family's homestead near Deary, Idaho. By the age of sixteen he was a cowboy who took care of hundreds of cattle. He tells about the life and the people of this young country. This booklet comes from talks with Arthur Bjerke that were recorded on his family's homestead in August and October of 1973 by Sam Schrager. Mr. Schrager also helped with the editing of the booklet. It was written and illustrated by Karen Purtee.
