Volunteer
We are fortunate to have a dedicated corps of volunteers who do vital work that we could never otherwise afford.

McConnell Mansion Tour Guide
How to be a docent.
As a tour guide (aka docent), you will help us to keep the McConnell Mansion open for visitors Tuesday through Saturday, from 1 to 4pm. Docenting is a minimal commitment. After a short training session, we invite you to sign up for one or two days a month on our docent calendar. Tour guides are welcome to bring friends, homework, or their knitting to the mansion while they volunteer. This is also the best way to learn all about the mansion and its history!
Events & Fundraisers
Learn about our events!
The Latah County Historical Society has a variety of events and fundraisers that take place throughout the year. There are many different opportunities to offer assistance, and we strongly believe that our events volunteers have the most fun!
If you have a limited amount of time, we often need cookies or other baked goods for fundraisers, or help setting up or taking down on the day of an event. If you have a lot of time, we have a special committee devoted to planning and executing every detail of our events.
Working with Artifacts
Hands-on Volunteering
There are a multitude of opportunities to work with the collections at the Centennial Annex. From updating our database, to organizing recent donations, there is always something to do.
Our Curator, Zachary Wnek, is happy to give hands-on training with the collections to anyone willing to commit a few hours each week. Please be advised that working with the collections is often slow and methodical. Volunteers are welcome to use headphones to listen to music or podcasts while they work. They are also welcome to chat with the staff and other volunteers. This is some of the most rewarding volunteer work that we can offer.
Other Projects
What interests you?
We have a diverse range of projects happening at the Latah County Historical Society at any given time: updating our oral history project, taking photos at events, moving our traveling exhibits, partnering with other community organizations, and more. Our needs change on a monthly basis.
If you have special skills that you would like to offer as a volunteer, please let us know! There is a place for you here. Won't you please join us?
